With all the new skincare technology out on the market, I’m always looking to try new things. One of the latest trends is using red and blue light therapy to treat acne. If you’re an avid reader of my blog than you remember me talking all about the Light Therapy Mask by Neutrogena a few months back! Here’s the blog Neutrogena Light Therapy Mask ||Review incase you haven’t read it yet! This new tool from Neutrogena uses both red and blue light therapy to combat acne, a few months ago, Neutrogena first released the Light Therapy Acne Mask, which is a mask for the entire face, now just recently released the pen, which is perfect and convenient for-spot treatments!
What does it do?
It quite literally puts spots in a spotlight, but with the aim of shrinking them. Apply the pen directly to a spot for two minutes and the energy generated from red and blue LED light is intended to nix the acne causing bacteria. The pen is chemical and UV free and can be used everyday or whenever you want to get rid of a spot!
What is acne light therapy? Acne light therapy is a non-invasive acne treatment which works to clear breakouts and speed up the healing process of spots and blemishes. The two kinds of light therapy used to help treat acne – red light and blue light therapy – work independently to treat and prevent mild to moderate acne.
Red light therapy is known to reduce inflammation and diffuse the appearance of acne. Traditionally used as an anti-ageing treatment due to its ability to stimulate collagen production, red light therapy also reduces imflammation making acne slightly more manageable.
Blue light therapy on the other hand targets acne-causing bacteria. As bacteria is very sensitive to the blue light spectrum, the blue light penetrates the skin’s hair follicles and pores which harbour bacteria inhibit acne developing.
Light therapy is particularly beneficial for those who hope to clear their skin but want to avoid using overly drying, heavy-duty chemical treatments.
Who is it for?
If you suffer from the odd breakout, the pen is very useful for calming isolated spots instantly- I found that it brought down swelling and redness.
When used for two minutes, three times a day, the Targeted Acne Spot Treatment will reduce the irritation and appearance of your blemishes for a clearer, more even complexion. Small and mighty, the pen is perfect for those who love the Neutrogena Mask, but frequently travel as well as those who do not need acne treatment all over their face and instead want to target single breakouts.
How it worked for me and my thoughts… I started using the Neutrogena Light Therapy Acne Spot Treatment a few weeks ago and I have to say I do love how easy and convenient it is to use! On days where I didn’t wear any makeup, I was able to use this three times a day on certain blemishes, and I think it did help the healing process! It was a good way to stop using a ton of acne topical creams that can dry the skin out. Especially if you’re someone like me and already suffer with dry skin. However, after some time of using it, I realized that the pen device may not be for me! As I do from quite a few breakouts, I found that this spot treatment was a little tedious to use – especially for 2 minutes on every blemish! I definitely think if you suffer from more than just a spot here or there, that you need to go with the mask.
However, with that being said, I still plan on using the pen, especially when my skin only has a few spots. I over all absolutely love the Neutrogena Light Therapy mask and pen. I have so say, that not many other masks, have worked so well for my skin as the light therapy does, so with that being said, its safe to say they are two of my holy grail skin care products/devices!
In all, I think this treatment actually does heal blemishes, and if you’re able to use it three times a day, it does speed up the process! Unfortunately, if you have more than just a couple of blemishes, this spot treatment can be come time consuming – which is why the mask may be a better option!
*This is a sponsored post as Neutrogena sent me the Light Therapy Spot Treatment to test out, since I’ve loved the Light Therapy Mask. All thoughts are 100% my own. I would never share products that I would personally not use. I have been using Neutrogena products for more years than I can even remember! Thanks Neutrogena for this opportunity!
Have you lovelies tried either of Neutrogena’s Light Therapy devices? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below!<3
